Data Retention

This page describes how long Moira (moira-astro.com) retains different categories of your data. Moira is operated by Daniel Burkett, an individual based in the United States. If you have questions, contact us at support@moira-astro.com.

1. Retention Schedule

We retain different categories of data for different periods, depending on why the data exists and what obligations apply to it:

Account and Chart Data

Your account record, saved charts, synastry comparisons, profile information, and other data you have entered into Moira are retained for as long as your account is active. If you submit an account deletion request, we will erase this data within 30 days of receiving your request.

Billing and Transaction Records

Records of payments, subscription changes, and related billing events are retained for up to 7 years from the date of the transaction. This retention period reflects standard tax and accounting obligations. Note that Stripe, our payment processor, also retains payment records independently per their own policies.

Application and Server Logs

Server-side request logs (which may include IP addresses and timestamps) are retained for approximately 90 days, after which they are deleted on a rolling basis. These logs exist for security, debugging, and operational purposes.

Backups

Database backups are maintained on a rolling cycle of approximately 30 days. Older backups are purged automatically as newer ones are created. After your account data is deleted from the live database, it will be fully purged from backups within this window.

2. How to Request Deletion

There is no self-serve account deletion at this time. To request deletion of your account and the data associated with it, please use our Account Deletion Request page. We process requests within 30 days of receipt and will confirm when your data has been erased.

Before submitting a deletion request, please cancel any active subscription to avoid further billing. Subscription cancellation does not automatically delete your account or data.

3. Subprocessors

Moira uses third-party service providers (subprocessors) that may retain your data according to their own policies. These include Clerk (authentication), Stripe (payments), Resend (transactional email), Anthropic (AI reading generation), Hetzner (hosting), and Cloudflare (DNS/CDN). Deleting your Moira account removes your data from our systems but does not automatically remove data held by subprocessors. Please review each provider's data retention and deletion policies if you wish to request erasure from those systems directly. Our Privacy Policy lists all current subprocessors.

4. Changes to This Page

We may update these retention periods as our practices evolve. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For questions about data retention, contact us at support@moira-astro.com.
